Cagney and Lacey DVD complete series collection with all episodes and seasons on DVDs
CBS TV network has this wonderful American TV series which was aired on the network for about seven seasons starting March 1982 up to May 1988 and its entitled Cagney & Lacey. This is a police type of show which stars Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless to play the role of New York City police detectives who both have different lives themselves.
Sharon Gless portrays the character of Christine Cagney who is a single career woman while Tyne Daly portrays the role of Mary Beth Lacey a working mom. The setting is in this novelized version of the Manhattan's 14th Precinct located at Midtown South, which in reality is located at 357 West 35th Street.
Other characters in the story include the supervisor Lt. Bert Samuels, Sidney Clute, Martin Kove, and Carl Lumbly together with detectives Victor Isbecki, Marcus Petrie and Paul LaGuardia. There also is the character of John Karlen playing the role of Harvey which is Lacey's husband. You may as well find Dick O'Neill and Ronald Colman playing a significant role in the series.
Loretta Swit was actually the first star being offered to take the role of Cagney since she was the one who played this role in the TV movie. She then had to hold back from getting into the TV series role since she already was a cast in the hit series M*A*S*H. The producers didn’t allow her to take the role instead.
As Meg Foster then played the role of Cagney, there were for about 6 episodes which were aired for this particular season. The series then began in 1982 however the network had to remove Foster from the role since they felt that Foster herself is harsh, this personality would then portray a lesbian character for Cagney which they do not have intentions to do so. Sharon Gless then replaced her role from here.
The network is hoping that Sharon Gless can explicitly portray Christine Cagney’s personality which is more feminine, high class and a bit snobbish type of woman coming from a wealthy family. The show was able to complete the top ten for this particular season where it was able to earn thirty six Emmy Award nominations as well as 14 wins up to the year 1988.
